Principal's Welcome Letter

August 13, 2021

Dear Pennekamp Families,

I am delighted to be the new principal of Pennekamp Elementary and look forward to collaborating and building relationships within this incredible community. We will work together to continue to provide high levels of instruction and a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success.

Manhattan Beach Unified School District has been my home away from home for over 22 years. I discovered this district while earning my Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, when I was placed at Pacific Elementary for a 4th grade student teaching assignment. Soon after, I was hired as a Kindergarten teacher at Grand View Elementary, where I would spend the next 18 years teaching grades 1, 3, and 5. The last 4 years I have worked as a shared assistant principal at both Pacific and Grand View. I am grateful to broaden my list of campuses served with this opportunity to lead at Pennekamp.

On a personal note, I live in West Torrance with my husband, Mike, daughter, Abby (16), and son, Chase (14). The summer was mostly spent driving the children to school and social events with also a few long weekends away dotted in between. This felt like a true gift after enduring the various limitations of the summer of 2020 and I sincerely hope you were able to enjoy some time off with your family.

A new year is upon us: I cannot wait to greet the students and soak up their energy when we start in person on Wednesday, August 25. COVID-19 and campus construction continue to present challenges that affect our normal way of conducting activities and events. I will keep you apprised and thank you in advance for your flexibility. Please feel free to reach out with questions and concerns at any time. A “Coffee with the Principal” will take place in the month of September- I encourage you to attend and look forward to meeting each and every one of you.
